As your expected delivery date approaches, be sure you have packed or made a list of those things you plan to pack for your hospital stay. Each mother receives an admission packet that includes personal hygiene care items. If you’d like to bring a radio, CD player or tape player, be sure it is battery-operated only.
Remember:
- A robe and slippers
- Pajamas or nightgowns
- Bra and panties
- Shampoo and cosmetics, brush or comb
- Hair dryer
- Book, magazines, needlework
- Birth announcements and pen
- Telephone numbers of people you’ll want to call when baby arrives, including the number to call to add baby to your insurance plan
- Breast pads if breastfeeding
- Contact lenses or glasses if you wear them
- Camera, film, batteries (for photographing your own baby only please)
- Identification card with photo (like driver’s license)
- Health insurance card and/or policy information
- Deductible or co-payment (contact your insurance company for details) payable by check, cash, credit card
- Advance directives
Please leave the following at home:
- Electrical appliances (except for hair dryers)
- Jewelry and valuables
- Excessive amounts of money
Don’t forget to pack items for the trip home too.
For yourself:
- something loose-fitting, comfortable and appropriate for the season
- low-heeled shoes
For your baby:
- several newborn diapers
- receiving blanket
- “going home outfit” which is appropriate for the season
- infant car seat.
