For more than twenty years Riverside heart surgeons have provided advanced level open-heart surgery to Peninsula residents. During that time these highly trained medical specialists and their advanced support team of critical care nurses and technicians have completed more than 8,000 open-heart surgical procedures.
Riverside cardiothoracic surgeons perform open-heart surgery procedures including bypass surgery and cardiac valve repair and replacement procedures.
Some bypass surgery cases may be performed using a special technique called off pump coronary artery bypass. In these cases, called OPCAB, the bypass surgery is performed without using the heart-lung bypass machine. This procedure is not suited for all patients. The patient’s physicians will determine the best course of treatment for each individual patient.
Cardiac Surgery Clinic
To insure that patients get the very best care during and after their cardiac surgery procedures the Riverside team includes a specialty nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner's role includes close monitoring during the hospitalization and then again in a specialty clinic in the weeks after surgery to continue monitoring and treatments.
