Kidney Dialysis

Healthy kidneys remove liquids and chemicals from your blood. Some people can develop kidney disease problems that may require a special treatment called dialysis. During dialysis, a machine helps your body remove the liquids and chemicals from the blood. The majority of dialysis patients are treated in local dialysis centers such as RAI Dialysis Centers by a process called hemodialysis. Some patients choose peritoneal dialysis and perform their treatments at home.

Care begins with a referral from your doctor to one of our kidney specialists. A team of nurses, dietitians and social workers will work with you during treatments and will offer information and support. Individual treatments usually last three to four hours and are given three days a week. Daytime and evening appointments are available. There is a licensed nurse on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency treatments at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.
