Riverside Diabetes Services Educational Program provides the tools and resources you need to live a healthy lifestyle and feel better. Classes are held at the Oyster Point office location. The comprehensive program covers topics like:
- High risk areas for developing diabetes
- How different types of diabetes develop
- How high blood sugar levels can make you feel
- What, when and how much to eat and why it is important
- How to read food labels
- Good menu choices when eating out
- Why it is important to check blood sugar levels
- The importance of and ways to handle stress
- How diabetes medications work and steps to taking them correctly
- How to handle and prevent diabetes emergencies
- How to choose and use a glucose meter
- How exercise can improve and control diabetes
- How to choose the best exercise for you and when to start
- What uncontrolled diabetes can do to the body
- How to lower risk factors for diabetes complications
Program Specifics:
- Two full days of classroom instruction on Mondays and Tuesdays, 9am to 3:30pm
- Personalized meal plan with dietitian (1 hour)
- Foot assessment and instructions for self-examination with nurse educator (1 hour)
- Three-month follow-up appointment (1 hour)
- Additional personalized sessions to meet special needs may be available
