Hospital and Diagnostic Services

Hospital Services

Ambulatory Services
We provide a full spectrum of ambulatory services to include ambulatory surgery, chemotherapy, laboratory, x-ray services, cardiopulmonary services and physical rehabilitation services.

Emergency Services
The Riverside Tappahannock Hospital Emergency Department provides emergency medical treatment to more than 20,000 patients per year. The 10-bed department is staffed by Board-certified physicians, nurses and support staff, providing care 24 hours, 7 days per week.

Heart Center
We offer a full range of state-of-the-art cardiac procedures. Mobile laboratories, available through our affiliation with Riverside Health System, allow us to offer advanced cardiac catheterization procedures.

Skilled Nursing Unit – Azalea Hall
Azalea Hall encourages each resident to stay as active and independent as possible.

Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) serves critically ill patients. Both the specialized equipment and the higher nurse/patient ratio provide these patients with even more intensive care than on a traditional medical unit.

Radiology
Our imaging (x-ray) capabilities include diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT, mammography, PET/CT and MRI.

Surgery
Inpatient surgery and recovery services, one-day (outpatient) surgery and a full service Endoscopy Lab are available.

Social Services/Discharge Planning
Our Social Services and Discharge Planning Department provide counseling for patients and family members in planning for their discharge from the hospital. In addition, they provide information on community support after discharge.

Infusion Center
At the Infusion Center blood products and intravenous (IV) medications including chemotherapy are administered in a comfortable outpatient setting.

Lithotripsy
The mobile lithotripter is used to break up stones in the body, primarily in the kidney or bladder. By using shockwaves, lithotripsy breaks down the stone, which is then passed through urine with little or no pain.

Pain Management Center
Using the latest techniques in managing pain, our physician specialists have brought comfort to many patients, giving them renewed hope that their pain can be controlled.

Rehabilitative Services
Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services are available to in-hospital patients as well as to outpatients.

Diagnostic Services

Laboratory Services
Our full-service laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day. Your doctor receives prompt, accurate test results to help decide the most appropriate kind of treatment.

Radiology
The Radiology Department provides diagnostic x-ray studies and examinations, including ultrasound, vascular lab, echocardiography, CT, digital radiography and nuclear medicine. Mobile units extend our capabilities to include PET/CT and MRI.

Cardiopulmonary Services
Routine respiratory therapy, electrocardiography, pulmonary function testing and cardiac stress testing facilities are available to both in-hospital patients as well as outpatients.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is available to the Tappahannock area through an advanced mobile unit. The MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce images of the body’s soft tissues. The Radiologist interprets these images and provides results to your doctor to help plan your care.

Positron Emission Tomography
The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) mobile scanner is another imaging tool that helps physicians diagnose diseases, such as cancer, in earlier stages when treatments are generally more effective.

Mammography
Mammograms continue to be a valuable screening tool for the early detection of breast cancer and are available at the hospital or on the Riverside Health System traveling mammography unit. New techniques in mammography and stereotactic biopsy are less invasive, allowing us to pinpoint and diagnose suspicious breast masses and lesions with less discomfort for the patient.
