Patient and Visitor Information

Visiting Hours
Riverside Tappahannock Hospital recognizes that family and friends play an important role in the support and recovery of our patients. Visitor regulations have been established to allow visitation privileges for family members and friends, but to also help the facility maintain a level of security and uninterrupted patient care.

All visitors for the Medical-Surgical Unit, ICU, and Azalea Hall (skilled nursing unit) must sign in at the Switchboard Operator’s desk and receive a “visitor’s pass”. Nursing units reserve the right to restrict visitors under the age of 10 years depending on the situation. Children must be supervised at all times
Medical-Surgical Unit
1:00pm to 8:00pm
Only 2 visitors per patient

ICU
10:00am to 8:00pm
First 15 minutes – even hour
Maximum – 2 visitors per patient
Minimum age – 12 years old

Azalea Hall
No restrictions. Visitors are expected to obtain a visitor’s pass.

Emergency Room
Access to the Emergency Room treatment areas must be restricted to one visitor per patient in order to insure that appropriate care can be rendered and that patient privacy is protected.

Those wishing to visit at times other than those listed above must have permission from the nurse manager or charge nurse on the unit. The reason for the visit, the patient’s condition, and the impact on other patients in the room or department will determine whether permission will be granted.

Overnight Accommodations
On occasion, family members may stay overnight with hospitalized patients. For out of town family or visitors, we recommend either the Best Western in Warsaw, (804) 333-1700 or the Essex Inn B&B, (804) 443-9900.

Cards, Flowers and Mail
These items are delivered to the patient's hospital room. Any items that arrive after a patient leaves will be forwarded to their home. Due to space limitations, flowers and balloons are not permitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Gift Shop
Hours: Daily, 9:00am – 4:00pm (may vary)
Patients and guests may purchase magazines, cards, personal items and gifts at our on-site gift shop, The Hummingbird. Hospital volunteers operate The Hummingbird and use proceeds to benefit hospital programs. This is just one of the many ways you can put your talents to work in your community as a volunteer.

Meals and Snacks
Cafeteria Hours: Lunch, 11:30am – 1:00pm; Supper, 5:30pm – 6:30pm.
Vending Machines: Located just off the Main Lobby, near the Gazebo.

No Smoking
Smoking is not allowed in any Riverside facility.

Cell Phones and Public Phones
Each hospital bed has a telephone for patient use. Public payphones are located in the Emergency Department waiting area. Please refrain from using cell phones while within the hospital because the signals may interfere with hospital equipment.

Compliments, Comments and Complaints
Our STAR program is devoted entirely to your compliments, comments and complaints. When a staff member deserves special recognition, please let us know. Or if you’re dissatisfied in any way with your hospital stay please give us a chance to correct the situation. Forms are available in each patient room or call (804) 443-6111.

Making a Donation
We’re honored when a patient, visitor or member of the community wants to make a contribution to Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. The Riverside Health System Foundation provides a way for you to donate a gift to be used at our hospital. To speak to a member of their staff by telephone dial (757) 534-7070.
