What We Offer

Riverside School of Professional Nursing
The Riverside School of Professional Nursing offers a Nursing Program leading to a Diploma in Nursing and eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of a variety of students by offering a full-time day division (two year program), and a full-time evening and weekend division (three year program), and opportunity for advanced placement for applicants with prior nursing knowledge.

The Riverside School of Professional Nursing was established in 1916 and is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.  It has received continuing accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission since 1961.  Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing.

School of Practical Nursing 
The Riverside School of Practical Nursing is an eleven-month full-time program leading to a Diploma in Practical Nursing and eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia. The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of a variety of students by offering a full time day division (11 month program) and an evening-weekend division (17 month program). The program consists of classroom and clinical education in the art and science of nursing. The clinical education portion of the curriculum is conducted in the facilities of Riverside Health System and its affiliates. A variety of community based health experiences are included.

The Riverside School of Practical Nursing was established in 1961 and is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.  It has had continuing accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission since 1977.  The program is operated by Riverside Health System in conjunction with Newport News Public Schools.  Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Practical Nurses. 

StudentSchool of Radiologic Technology 
The Riverside School of Radiologic Technology is an eighteen-month, full-time educational program consisting of classroom and clinical education in the art and science of radiography. The clinical education portion of the curriculum is conducted in the facilities of Riverside Health System and its affiliates.

The Riverside School of Radiologic Technology was established in 1964 and is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and certified to operate in the State of Virginia by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).  The program is operated by Riverside Health System in conjunction with Newport News Public Schools.  Graduates of the program are eligible to take the certification examination
from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

School of Surgical Technology 
The Riverside School of Surgical Technology is an eleven-month full-time educational program consisting of classroom and clinical education in the art and science of surgical technology. The clinical education portion of the curriculum is conducted in the facilities of Riverside Health System, its affiliates, and various community health care settings.

The Riverside School of Surgical Technology was established in 1969 and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST). The program is operated by Riverside Health System in conjunction with Newport News Public Schools.  Graduates of the program are eligible to take the certification examination from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) formerly Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST).

LPN to RN Fast-Track Articulation Program
This program allows the LPN licensed in the state of Virginia to advance more quickly through the School of Professional Nursing.  Students must apply and be accepted into the RN program before beginning the articulation program.  After acceptance, students take an 8-10 week LPN to RN bridge course.  Upon successful completion of the bridge course, students will only be required to complete the senior level of the RN program (12 months for the Day Division or 18 months for the Evening/Weekend Division).

Advanced Imaging Courses for Radiologic Technologists
These programs are designed to expand your current knowledge within the field of Radiologic Science and prepares graduates for the National Registry in Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).  Students must be ARRT or CNMT certified or a currently enrolled senior, in good standing, in an accredited Radiologic Technology Program. Students with current or prior work experience performing CT, MRI or Nuclear Medicine functions may choose to opt out of the clinical option of the course.

Nurse Aide Education Program
This eight-week program is designed to prepare students to become Certified Nurse Aides.

* Application Fee $30. Check or money order only, made payable to RIVERSIDE must accompany the application for Practical Nursing, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology. Riverside School of Professional Nursing requires additional documents be submitted with the completed application and application fee (refer to program information for details).
