Riverside Behavioral Health Center Inpatient Adult Services assist adults, 18 years and older, who are experiencing psychiatric, emotional and/or substance abuse problems. An interdisciplinary approach brings together psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment experts within the context of a short-term, highly specialized and individualized program.

Intensive Treatment Program (ITP)
The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) is designed to assess and rapidly stabilize adults who are experiencing severe psychological illnesses. The goal of treatment is to reduce and manage the patient’s symptoms and to help the patient learn about his/her illness and treatment.

Admission Criteria
Common reasons for an adult to be admitted to ITP include:

• Suicidal thoughts or a suicide attempt
• Threatened, attempted or engaged in physical violence to others
• Unable to care for self
• Failed to improve with outpatient treatment
• Need for psychiatric care and medication stabilization
• Need for legally mandated admission for evaluation

The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) offers a holistic plan of care that includes: reality group therapy, activity therapy, art therapy, nutrition, individual goal setting and medication education.

An individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient, and an aftercare plan assists in the transition to outpatient care and community services.

Adult Psychiatric Services (APSY)
Adult Psychiatric Services (APSY) are targeted to adults whose psychiatric or emotional problems require evaluation and stabilization.

The following criteria are considered in order to enter the program. Individuals in APSY frequently:

• Have a recent history of suicidal behavior, are a threat to self or others
• Have experienced a recent failure in outpatient treatment
• Are unable to function on the job, at school, in the family and/or in a relationship
• Have experienced a change in mood that interferes significantly with their capacity to meet ordinary demands of daily living
• Need legally mandated admission for evaluation

Program components include: group therapy, psychoeducational groups, medication education, individual goal setting, relaxation group, art and recreational therapy.

Physicians medically assess their patients daily. An individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient, and an aftercare plan assists in the transition to outpatient care.

Inpatient Detoxification Services
Treatment consists of a period of detoxification in which the patient receives medical care during withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs.

Individuals may have:

• Evidence of withdrawal from the acute effects of alcohol or a history of alcohol withdrawal problems
• Recent excessive drinking with immediate physical dangers to self and/or others
• Characteristic symptoms of opiod/opiate withdrawal
• Medical conditions that heighten the risk of withdrawal or make outpatient detoxification impossible

Dual Diagnosis Service
Dual diagnosis treatment assists patients whose alcohol and drug problems cannot be addressed in isolation from their psychiatric difficulties. Many people find their recovery threatened by serious mood disorders. These services are individually designed to address both the chemical dependency(s) and the psychiatric disorder(s).
