Question
Is it true that cinnamon can lower blood sugar?
Answer
Some research suggests that cinnamon enhances the effectiveness of insulin, resulting in reduced blood sugar levels. One small study in India evaluated the effect of cinnamon in people with type 2 diabetes. Sixty participants took capsules that contained 1, 3 or 6 grams of cinnamon or a placebo for 40 days. In the people taking the cinnamon capsules, fasting blood sugar was reduced by 18 percent to 29 percent. Although these results are interesting, the study was very small and further research is needed to prove a benefit.
